Support for Ukrainian Patients with Cancer and Caregivers

More than 179,000 newly diagnosed patients with cancer are among the Ukrainian people suffering from Russia's unprovoked aggression. Disruptions to cancer treatment pose a grave risk to their very survival. As a global organization, the American Cancer Society stands in solidarity with all Ukrainians.

The American Cancer Society provides support that includes in-language written resources, and a Volunteer Corps of Clinicians to offer guidance to people with cancer and their families in collaboration with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center - Jefferson Health.

Volunteer clinicians needed

In response to the crisis in Ukraine, we are creating a Clinician Volunteer Corps to work in tandem with American Cancer Society National Cancer Information Center (NCIC) team members to field inquiries from patients, family members, and clinicians in Eastern Europe.

NCIC specialists will field calls and then transfer them to the Clinician Volunteer Corps representatives. The clinician volunteers will address the calls, representing their own expertise and not speaking on behalf of the American Cancer Society or the American Society of Clinical Oncology. If you are an oncologist or oncology nurse who speaks English and/or Central and Eastern European languages, please volunteer today.

Once your form is reviewed, we’ll be in touch with next steps. Thank you for considering this important opportunity to assist cancer patients during this extremely difficult time.

About NCIC
The NCIC fields hundreds of thousands of calls, chats, and social media inquiries from patients, family members, and clinical professionals annually. NCIC specialists answer questions related to cancer including prevention, treatment, and side effect management. They can also connect people with resources to help them navigate their cancer journey.

Governance

The American Cancer Society, Inc. takes its mission to improve lives seriously and therefore works to protect the resources entrusted to it by the public. The Society is governed by a single Board of Directors, which is made up of volunteers from the medical and lay communities. Our system of organizational governance ensures the input of appropriate experts on decision making and strategic oversight of comprehensive nationwide operations.

Help people with cancer during a crisis

The American Cancer Society’s Cancer Crisis Response Fund aids people with cancer, caregivers and health care professionals during times of crisis.

We are building capacity across our National Cancer Information Center and Clinician Volunteer Corps to respond to crises involving populations of any background and origin, reflecting our long-term, equity-focused vision of a world where everyone has access to care. We are also creating and delivering quality resources, information, and support both domestically and internationally.

With your support, we can fulfill our commitment to this work – saving lives that otherwise might be lost to cancer, diminishing suffering, and reducing the global threat of the disease. Please give today.
